UIDAI( unique identification authority of India ) has taken a new step to secure adhar data by introducing 16-digit random ID called as virtual ID.This step is taken prior to the latest unverified data breach incidents covered by journalists. How will VID work? >> This is two-tier security mechanism. >> It is 16-digit random number mapped with Adhar number. >> There can only be one active and valid VID at any time. >> Noone can derive adhar number from VID number. >> only adhar holder can generate VID. >> It is temporary hence agencies will not use it for de-duplication. How will it protect existing adhar number? VID prohibits direct sharing of adhar number of customers which store on various databases.It looks promising but the government needs better regulation over storage of adhar data on various servers.
